Looking for victory this week at Doncaster

This Saturday there’s one trainer who’s more hungry to make some waves at Doncaster than any other; and that trainer is Aidan O’Brien. He’ll be fielding one of his strongest teams of the season this week led by none other that top horse Capri.

It will be Capri who spearheads the four strong team of O’Brien’s, along with Venice Beach, Douglas Macarthur, and The Anvil. After an incredible performance at the Irish Derby Capri is looking to build on this result, although due to a slight setback he did miss out on his prep race in York last month. This will only make trainer Aidan O’Brien even hungrier for success however given this would make his fifth success in the world’s oldest classic!

It’s the St Leger race in which Capri will be competing in, and trainer Aidan O’Brien knows this race well. It was only four years ago that trainer O’Brien’s son; Joseph O’Brien took the horse Leading Light to victory in this very race as a jockey. While Aidan will be looking to build on this success his son will be riding horse Rekindling this week.

The competition

This won’t be an easy race by any stretch of the imagination though; there’s plenty of experienced and successful stables competing alongside O’Brien this weekend. Perhaps the biggest name on the list is Cracksman, whose trainer John Gosden already has four leger wins to his name. Gosden comes in with both Stradivarius and Coronet this week!

The final bit of competition for this race comes from Sir Michael Stoute’s stable, as he offers leading contender Crystal Ocean. Crystal Ocean warmed up well for this race by taking down gold in the Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood this past month.

So there’s going to be fierce competition for O’Brien however it’s a challenge he’s more than prepared for. So make sure you tune in for the St Leger race at Doncaster this Saturday!
