About Leopardstown Racecourse

Leopardstown Racecourse is a racecourse which is located in the small village of Leopardstown; just 8km South of the Irish capital Dublin. Due to its ideal location, Leopardstown Racecourse is a hotbed of activity all months of the year. Leopardstown Racecourse first began hosting races back in 1888. It wasn’t until 1967 when the horse racing board of Ireland decided to take ownership of it though that it became as popular as it is now today.

Leopardstown Racecourse like most other Irish racecourses offers both flat and national hunt racing on its track. The track here is ran left handed, and has a total distance of one mile six furlongs; finishing with an uphill sprint.  Generally, Leopardstown Racecourse offers just flat races during the summer months and then transitions to Chase and Hurdle races for the winter months.

Leopardstown Racecourse hosts perhaps more notable races throughout the calendar year than any other racing venue in Ireland. There’s 37 notable races which take place at Leopardstown Racecourse; these are a mixture of flat, hurdle, and chase races which take place across every grade/group possible. Not only that but every month of the year except for April offers big racing days which means there’s never a bad time to pick Leopardstown Racecourse as a place for a day out.

The biggest race Leopardstown Racecourse has to offer is the Irish Champion Stakes. The Irish Champion Stakes is a group one race ran over one mile and two furlongs; and is only available to horses over the age of three. This takes place every year in September and makes up one of the races in world series of racing.

Overall this makes Leopardstown Racecourse one of the biggest and most prestigious horse racing venues in all of Ireland. The location is excellent, the facilities are even better, and every race day features at least one major race!
