Navan Racecourse is a racecourse which can be near the small county town of Navan; county Meath in Ireland. County Meath has a population of around 32,000 making it the 5th largest town in Ireland. This also helps it to draw in large crowds every time race day rolls around. This is helped by the fact that it’s just 48 km Northwest of Dublin; meaning this racecourse is accessible to millions.
While flat racing is offered at Navan Racecourse; the venue is particularly well known for its national hunt racing. These races are run on a turf track which has a distance of one and a half miles. This is a left handed track with wide sweeping bends before ending with an uphill sprint for two furlongs. To add to the difficulty; Navan Racecourse is also seen as an undulating track giving the track a wavy landscape.
Navan Racecourse is home to a couple of notable races throughout the season. As with many national hunt races – these primarily take place during the winter months. There are two notable flat races which take place every season at Navan Racecourse. These take place at the end of April and the beginning of May. This is primarily when the season at Navan Racecourse ends.
These races are a good mixture of chase and hurdle races; taking place at grade two or grade three. The biggest race of the year however is the Navan Novice Hurdle. This is a grade one race over a distance of two miles and four furlongs. This takes place every year in December and creates the most popular race day meeting at Navan Racecourse.
