About Sir Michael Stoute
Sir Michael Stoute may now be 71, however he’s shown no signs that his time at the top of the horse racing circuit is coming to an end anytime soon. In fact, Sir Michael currently holds rank number 4 in the 2017 British Championship for flat trainers.
Sir Michael Stoute was born in Barbados, 1945, however left the island at just 19 years of age to become an assistant to trainer Pat Rohan. Sir Michael has been in the horse racing industry as a trainer ever since. Due to his services in the sport as well as to tourism in Barbados, Sir Michael Stoute was knighted in 1998.
Sir Michael won his first ever race as a trainer in 1972 however nobody knew the success that was about to follow. Since then Sir Michael has been crowned Champion Trainer and incredible 10 times. His first title was won in 1981 with his most recent win of the title coming in 2009.
His races
Over the past five seasons in the sport Sir Michael has shown he’s still one of the very elite horse trainers around. He’s won 431 out of 2157 races with 554 placed finished which gives him a 20% win rate for his horses. John has been performing best with three year old horses running turf boasting a slightly higher win percentage with these compared to the rest.
John has has trained some of the horse racing world’s most famous horses over his time; his most notable horse being Shergar, winner of the 1981 Epsom Derby. This is actually a pretty infamous horse as it was stolen from Sir Michael, presumably from the IRA. Some of his best horses at the moment we’d suggest you all look out for though include Ballet Concerto, Convey, and most notably Ulysses.
